Watching soccer from a ref's perspective

Since my last post, Mikie has had a couple track meets and soccer games. His best time in the mile is 4:57. His best time in the 800 was a 2:10. He has another meet on Tuesday at home vs Marshall and Harper Creek. The soccer team has tied both their games. Both were State cup games, so we don't know how that will play out. His team definitely played better then the other teams, but is having a hard time scoring.

Yesterday and today Michael refereed soccer games. Yesterday was a u12 girls game on the north side of Battle Creek. Today was a tourney in Kalamazoo area. He had four games today. He was center ref of a u12 boys game and a u10 girls game. He was sidelines on a u12 girls game and a u14 girls game. He made $90.00 so he was happy about that. I'll have to sneak a picture of him in his ref uniform!

Steve and I watched the games. It was a different perspective for us. Parents take the games way too serious, and place too much pressure on the kids. The fathers of the girls teams were the most vocal. From the ref side of it, don't yell at the ref it will only make him want to make calls against your team. The refs do want to call a fair game and don't really care who wins.

We have had some spring like weather finally! I'm ready to plant flowers but have to wait another 3-4 weeks! Yes, I live in MI.

Steve has Fridays off now so we have been doing things together during the day. Mostly yard work and errands, but makes for nice long weekends.

Hope all is well for everyone. I am counting down the days until Megan comes home!

love to all...

SPRING BREAK?

Spring break in Michigan is an oxymoron. Sunday evening we got 6 inches of heavy wet snow that broke trees and created power outages! We were out of power for 16 hours, which means we were unable to use our water because we have a well. Michael and I were supposed to go to U of M engineering school for a tour, but we canceled. I really need a shower or I look like crap, just ask the "bub". We played board games and had a very low key day. I guess the only good part was the quality time I had with Michael. No x-box or TV. We go to Purdue school of engineering and technology, Indianapolis on Friday. Hopefully all will go as planned!

Yesterday Michael and I went to Kalamazoo. They have a store there that will buy his old x-box games. He made $40. We went to the mall to look for khaki pants for him. I was amazed to find no khaki pants. We went to Abercrombie "just to look". I asked a clerk if they had any khakis' and he said they had some that were on sale in the back room. He found Michael's size, so we lucked out finding a pair for $20. He got a couple polo's that were also on sale and a good buy.

Michael went to track today, they were able to run inside which was nice. His track meets and soccer games will start next week. It will be busy but fun for all of us.

Denso offered a buy out. After much deliberation and getting all the info Steve decided to stay and not take it. Due to the fact almost 40% would be taken out for taxes and health benefits would be $1000 per month, and trying to find a job could be difficult and stressful it isn't good timing.

I only work one day this week, but the rest of the month looks to be busy, so hopefully I'll recoup the lost days.

Hope everyone is doing well. Good luck to Mitch on his Dr appt. Love to all!

Happy Easter this weekend!

Michael NHS

Michael got inducted into National Honor Society tonight. This is a picture of him and the "soccer boys". There were 7 soccer players inducted in NHS, a good showing. In the picture, Michael isn't standing up straight so he looks shorter then the others. He is actually taller then a few of them. I'll try to blog later this week. love to all!!!!

Love the ones your with,(and the ones away)!

I'm sorry it has been too long since my last blog.

We have had a warm spell! It finally melted our record level of snow. Of course Michael is upset, but I've reassured him we will get more! He has today and Monday off of school. He went with the ski club (In a chartered bus), up north to Boyne mountain to snow board today. The bus left the school at 6 am to return around 11 pm tonight. He should have a good time.

He did finish the 1 st semester with all A's. He did have to work hard especially due to being in Florida. He recently got his PLAN test results back. This is an ACT test for sophomores. His composite score was 22. His highest score was math. He got a 28, which was a 98%. He needs to try and bring up his English before the actual test. He did make the regional super y soccer team that plays over the summer. He is lifting weights everyday and running. He really wants to do well this spring and summer in soccer. He takes a referee class next Sat from 8-5, to get certified. He could work weekends and tournaments. I'm sure we will have a total different perspective about refs once he has to handle some parents!

Steve's work has went to 4 day weeks for hourly and pay cuts for salaried. He had a mandatory day off today (with out pay). He decided to have his colonoscopy done today. He had two more polyps removed. This makes it two years in a row so of course he has to have another one next year. We are going to try and add more fiber in our diets (flax seed in cereal for breakfast etc).

My job is going ok. My schedule is not as full, but I am doing more with each patient. Most people want me to use the laser which adds to my pay. I would never have a patient do something they don't need. We are accepting more insurance plans so patients will stay.

Steve and I are going to RAIN for valentines night. They play Beatles songs and I guess they have gotten great reviews. I know Jen thinks "nobody" can do the Beatles!

We all miss Megs very much! We pray everyday for her school, work and relationships. For her to be blessed and be a blessing to those around her. Family is such a strong bond and a needed comfort.

Happy Valentines Day! Love to all!

Winter Wonderland

Hello everyone! We have over a foot of new snow. The deer come out around 5:30 every evening and search for food. They are fun to watch and the snow is pretty to look at, it just makes you want to stay home and not get out in it.

Congrats Megs on your acceptance to Loyola. We are very proud of you!!

Cheers!

Hello everyone. Here is to a safe, prosperous, healthy 2009! I am very thankful for all the blessings our family has and looking forward to new joys and opportunities in 2009!

I know Jen blogs about working out so I have to say I got the wall squat record today at my workout place! After I went through the circuit I did wall squat for 11 minutes. The previous record was 6min. I felt like I would've went longer, but felt beating the record by 5 min was long enough. I'm sure I will be sore tomorrow and might not be able to walk up the stairs, but I can say I did it!

It is finally a sunny day here. Michael is still having stomach issues so he is content playing x-box with friends. Steve and I went to see Marley and Me yesterday. We both left the theater with red swollen eyes. It is a great movie, I want to buy in when it comes out. We also saw 7 pounds last week and again it was a tear jerker.

It has been nice having time off, but in Michigan there is not much to do so it makes a person look forward to going back to work! I've talked to Megs and she has had a good time celebrating the new year with Jason. He got tickets to the Charger Colts game in San Diego, so they will be at the game. (40 yd line 2nd tier Charger side) She seems really happy and of course that makes us happy too.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying time off. Love to all!!

MERRY CHRISTMS FAMILY!!
I took the picture of the house this morning, Christmas morning. It rained yesterday, so a lot of the snow melted. To answer Jen's question, I think the other photo was taken Christmas 2005. Michael has changed a lot!!
